When 2 people love deeply, they stoke each others fires

2nd honeymoon. By the time this picture was taken we were 9 years into adventuring life together. We were already learning how to stoke each others fires. We had survived my cliff diving, several wilderness adventures, 3 children (almost losing one twice), having money, being downsized, broke, and already on my 4th career. Standing at 12,000 feet and still kind of wet from whitewater rafting earlier, we stopped for a picture.
35 years later (after picture) we haven’t caught our breath yet as we are stoked. Our coal beds run deep. Man, I would love to make it another 44 years with this gal.
Psst…A hint on love advice from a couple with no bad years…(1) It really doesn’t work to stoke your own fire. (2) Read 1 Corinthians 13 4-7 on love.
Gary
Those who know us well, know that our anniversary isn’t till opening day of spring fishing season (another topic on decision making) but I thought this was a great way to start off our year because we live quite fearlessly and will continue to adventure in all aspects of life possible. 44 years might be well into eternity the ultimate adventure.

John. We met at Oak Hills Christian College. dated after that and married while at Crown College. I packed 4 years into 6 for a degree.

Is that an original Fultz quote—love means stoking each other’s fires? It’s a good one!
It makes sense that stoking one’s own fire 🔥 would be difficult.
Happy Anniversary!

It is an original quote David. Maybe. Being there is nothing new under the sun I wouldn’t be surprised if people have said it down through the ages while sitting around the fire.
Thanks

Thank You so much. We know how the odds are stacked against a thriving marriage. 8 out of 10 remain together with a handicapped child. It takes 2 + God as leader

Great advice for the younger generations and those early in their marriage.
It is always a blessing to hear stories of long-lasting marriages still thriving into the latter years of life. Congratulations!

Thanks Manette. We have taken some young couples under our wings so to speak. It truely is a great adventure to be lived daily till the Lord calls one and then both of us home. Be it long or short we can make it sweet knowing sweets don’t last forever in this life but it’s a great set-up for eternity.

I so loved this post! The picture of the two of you on the venture of your whitewater rafting trip is wonderful. Life is good, and God is good. Marriage is indeed a blessing when two souls love and care deeply for one another. Like that rafting trip, it is a grand adventure…Wishing you many joys in this coming year!
