I had seen her shuffling along the hospital hallways, humming to herself and arranging things in her cart. It’s not often one sees a great grandmother, all 5′ 2″, dressed in blue scrubs.
No one seemed to pay her any attention at her half speed. It appeared mutual as she was lost in her own world. I wondered about my perception as my first thought was “wow, a cleaning lady with a blood draw cart”. I sometimes misjudge people I am told.
Several days later: our daughter needed a blood culture. Four nurses paraded in and out of the room, all unsuccessful. An hour passed and there was a little knock on the door. Our little ole cleaning lady with the blood draw cart came in and parked by our daughters bed.
My wife and I were ignored. The little women touched our daughter on the arm and mumbled clearly “baby doll, you are my baby girl. I was here when you came in (she was life flighted) and I have seen you in the other rooms. I am here now cause they need your blood to know what medicine to give you. I get your blood every time”.
She muttered a little and I got the feeling she was praying for our daughter as she began to tap on the left arm and fasten a band to make blood vessels pronounced. More tapping as she clearly said “you belong to Jesus. He’s holding you in his hands baby girl. We’re not gonna let you go”
The soul-humming started again, she looked at my wife and I and pleasantly told us to step out of the room. “Me and my girl gonna have a talk and get some blood to know what infection we gonna fight ” she says.
My wife whispered “she’s gonna pray with her”. After the door shut behind us I said to my wife, “do you think she’s a…mmm…”, she nodded.
15 minutes later I checked on our little old blue-clad lady and our daughter. “WE GOT BLOOD” ,as the cart rolled by. “Bye my baby girl” we heard as we walked bedside to a mostly incoherent daughter.
“Was that your angel?” I whispered to my daughter? She half opened her eyes with the most coherent words that we had heard in awhile…”uh..huh”.
Gary
yes we will be bedside for quite a while. Doc says there is hope. Haven’t seen our old gal in awhile. Sometimes life is hard. What a journey to become a little ole cleaning lady…impersonating an angel??
Praying for your daughter, and for you and your wife. This ‘blue angel’ is indeed a beautiful soul. Blessings continuously flow minute to minute as we pray. God is there with us at all times and in all places.

Gary, this is beautiful. There are angels among us, my friend. My family and I are praying for healing, comfort, and restoration–for Tania and you both. We have your entire family in our thoughts and hearts. God’s goodness never ceases to amaze me. You are all loved! Thank you for sharing this incredible experience. Tania knew she had an angel; that angel had her baby girl!

thankyou for those prayers Karla. Sometimes in our bad experiences, something great happens. I don’t understand that and will freely admit that my ways and God’s ways are very different. I also know that sometimes he uses ordinary people to be like an angel to a complete stranger.

thanks Suzette. When something happens out of the ebb and flow of life, we want God to step in (our ideas are different than his almost always). When God steps in its easy to question his methods. I admit to asking God for at least a sign of his presence…it came in blue scrubs…this could obviously be a long discussion…best around a campfire someday.

Gary, I knew something was up regarding your daughter. And obviously are dealing with a very serious situation in that you had to find a location which had room specialists and whatever you needed and it meant a couple hour drive twice a day for you guys as long as you were going back and forth. I don’t know the details but I just happen to call Sharon this morning and she kinda clued me in and gave me cause to think of you and wish for you strength energy and ultimately greater healing for your daughter. Among your many skills of course is your writing and the story you tell is heartwarming and close to over whelming.
Wishing for you strength energy and patience as you deal with what is a lifelong responsibility and caretaking task.
Keep in touch [love and prayers] jdb
A lot of loss this little note is mostly dictated so it’s difficult to guarantee I don’t slip up inadvertently so I hope you’re somewhat patient with me. ________________________________

I have thought of that verse also Fred. It’s always been a strange verse to me until now. I am also reminded that we may think of our daughter as our own, but God might take issue with how much we think we own her…our little “soul” women sure thinks differently

Thank you so much Karen. The journey is long for our daughter. It’s only a guess at this point, but a week hospital stay is long. I am amazed at how many people have joined her journey in support in many ways. God loves us but doesn’t always prevent the pain of life.

Gary, I’m sorry to learn of your daughter’s health battle but humbled like you and the rest who commented at the remarkable kindness and gentleness of this sweet lady. I can’t help but think of Hebrews 13:2, “Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.”
Surely this woman…errr….angel….is being entertained by your gratefulness. ❤️ more than two-fold glory as your family and readers are blessed and Jesus is ultimately glorified.

Yes Thanks Alicia. On one side of the blog coin, I had hoped to subtly Challenge all of us to grow our character over the years. In so doing we may just come off as an angel in human form to someone in need. And, Yes, Jesus is ultimately glorified

I love this so much. I worked in a small hospital lab and X-ray department for 25yrs and did a LOT of difficult blood draws. Warmed my heart to read about your daughter’s angel. And I read your latest post also and watched your son’s video. You lived out your beliefs and without realizing it, your son saw your open Bible and knew you are the real deal. God does seem to use a hammer and chisel at times. For our good and his glory. Praying for your daughter as well as you and your wife. Thank you for sharing your story.
